What Are Citations?
Citations are online references to a website or business and consist of the business name, address, and phone number (NAP). Most, if not all, citations take the form of an online business listing. Some examples of this are Yelp, Facebook, and Google My Business.
Why Are Citations Important?
Citations are important because they show Google you are a trustworthy and real website. Because companies/websites that can’t be trusted don’t post their NAP information anywhere. Also, the citation sites do a bit of due diligence. This is, again, a trust signal for Google.
Citations are important for ranking locally. This is because the NAP information consists of your address. This way, it’s much easier for Google to determine your location.

If you are not based in the Netherlands, you should skip the ones with a .nl domain extension.
